Here at Singing Lessons Oxford we are passionate about our singing students becoming involved in the local music scene. It is a great way to learn about singing stagecraft and performance and luckily in Oxford we have some fantastic music venues that attract international and national bands as well as a thriving underground scene. So you know which music venues to check out we have drawn together a short list of what we consider to be the best music venues Oxford has to offer. Enjoy.

The Jericho Oxford has a rich history of being the centre of the local music scene since the early 90s, with bands like Supergrass having played here almost weekly as they gathered a fanbase and rose to international fame. Located at 56 Walton Street, Jericho, Oxford, OX2 6AE it is the perfect place for you to start gigging, growing a local audience and using this momentum to boost you to national fame. Packed full of local bands The Jericho is a great place to go and get a taste of the Oxford music scene.

Oxford Town Hall is a fantastic music venue that is bursting with character. Having seen some truly great bands rock audiences in the intimate venue it is worth getting yourself down to the Town Hall on the rare occasion it is a gig night. Located at St Aldate's, Oxford, OX1 1BX the historic hall which has even taken visits from Nelson Mandela and Mikhail Gorbachev during its time should be an aim for any local singer to perform at. Famous for its lighting and atmosphere performing in front of a packed audience at the town hall would be an amazing experience.

The Cellar Oxford is Oxford's best underground music venue with a host of first-class bands touring the national circuit to rock local audiences. Certainly a venue you should be gigging at if you are an up and coming band The Cellar is a fantastic place to start building up a local audience. Located at Frewin Court, OX1 3HZ, just off Cornmarket Street, The Celler is respected by local music lovers for being one of the few venues in Oxford to retain some independence while most other clubs have gone corporate. The quality of the music makes it a fantastic night out, you will undoubtedly be watching bands that will go on to international fame over the next three years - the likes of Foals, Young Knives and Friendly Fires all played The Cellar in the late 2000s on there way to making careers in the music industry.

The 02 Academy Oxford is one of Oxford's best music venues attracting some of the best bands in the business to our city. Formally known as the Carling Academy before being refurbished in by the Academy Music Group in 2006 at the cool price of £4,000,000 the three-roomed music venue is dripping with rock history. Indeed, it was the venue that Radiohead shot their Creep video - the song that brought them to international fame. The close ties between Radiohead and the venue are a good document, with the band helping to keep the venue alive in the late 90s. The 1,350 capacity venue located at 190 Cowley Road, OX4 1UE, is split into three stages perfect for local bands who want to work up from Oxford Academy Stage 3, to Stage 2 to the main stage performing alongside the likes of Johnny Marr, Funeral For A Friend, The Stranglers, The Courteeners and Duran Duran to name but a few of the bands that have rock audiences. Well worth keeping your eye on who is playing at the 02 Academy Oxford as no doubt there will be some amazing bands that you will want to check out there.
